Here are some HOW-TOs for some interesting artmaking techniques. The kids love to use these fun tricks to create art.

Watercolor Techniques

Tape Resist
Materials: 
     Masking tape (various sizes)
     Watercolor
     Paint Brushes
     Bucket of Water
Step 1: Stick masking tape to a piece of watercolor paper.
Step 2: Paint with watercolor (it is okay to paint right over the tape)
Step 3: Let dry
Step 4: Peel tape to reveal white stripes.
Optional: Stick more masking tape over   already painted paper then blend another color over top, let dry, peel tape to reveal stripes of the color underneath. 

Painting Techniques

Marble Painting
Materials: 
     Box Lid or Shoe Box
     Saran Wrap
     Marbles
     Tempera Paint
Step 1: Place a piece of paper in the box lid or shoe box.
Step 2. Squirt a little bit of paint of one or more colors.
Step 3. Drop in some marbles.
Step 4. Put on lid or cover in Saran wrap.
Step 5. Shake box.
Wax or Glue Resist
Materials:
    Wax Crayons or Elmer's Glue
    Watercolor 
    Paint Brushes
    Bucket of Water
Step 1: Draw lines with either wax crayon (press hard) or Elmer's Glue.
Step 2: Paint with watercolor (It is okay to paint right over the crayon or glue)
Step 3: Lines or pictures drawn with crayon or glue should reveal themselves (even white crayons)

Salt
Materials:
    Table Salt
    Watercolor
    Paint Brushes
    Bucket of Water
Step 1: Paint with watercolor.
Step 2: While still wet, sprinkle on salt.
Step 3: Let dry
Step 4: Brush off salt.

Oil resist

Materials:
    Vaseline
     Acrylic Paint

Ceramics/Glass

Ceramics Scratch Art

Bubble Printing
Materials:
      Dish Soap
      Plastic Straws
      Tempera Paint
      Cups
      Wate
Step 1: Mix dish soap, tempera and water in a cup filled about halfway.    
Step 2: Blow bubbles with a plastic straw until the bubbles start overflowing.
Step 3: Press a piece of paper on top of the bubbles and let them pop on the paper.

 Other Techniques

Pencil Transfer
Materials:
    Image
    Pencils
    Drawing Paper
    Masking Tape
Step 1: Flip over your image you would like to transfer.
Step 2: Make a thick coat of pencil on the back side of the image.
Step 3: Tape the image to the piece of drawing paper to create a flap. The pencil layer of the image should be touching the drawing paper.
Step 4: Trace firmly over the image and the lines will be transferred onto the drawing paper.
